CVAA Adoption Support Practice Excellence Event, October 2017

Thursday 2 November 2017

This October CVAA held a Practice Excellence event focusing on Adoption Support, where we were joined by Professor Julie Selwyn and a wonderfully engaged group of support practitioners.

With evidence informed practice and impact measurement at the heart of CVAA’s practice programme, delegates considered how a Theory of Change model could help them illustrate the impact of their services. Articulating this can be instrumental when communicating with funders, and by clarifying the process through which interventions make a difference, we become clearer about what works for which children.

Julie Selwyn reaffirmed this, speaking to delegates about developments in evidence-based and promising practice. In line with the theme of this year’s National Adoption Week, Julie discussed the importance of supporting sibling relationships in placement and how to best do so. CVAA members can view Julie’s full presentation by visiting the members area of our website.

The event provided practitioners with opportunity to network, share feedback, and learn about VAA innovations including Families for Childrens Atrium project; the Knowledge Transfer Partnership involving St David’s Children’s Society and Cardiff University, tackling the length of time children wait in Wales; and the varied support provided by CCSs Centre of Adoption Support and Education.

CVAA members can access resources from this event in the members area of our website. Thank you to all who attended. We hope to see you at our event in Birmingham on Wednesday 6th December.
