MANAGING SAFEGUARDING IN ADOPTION SUPPORT SERVICES – AFTER ADOPTION

Monday 5 November 2018

Amid the formation of Regional Adoption Agencies, the separation of adoption services from mainstream provision, and the complex needs of children who are placed for adoption, this paper seeks to provoke thought about how best children can be safeguarded whilst also providing robust support for adoptive parents. When managing complex, and potentially violent behaviours, many adoptive parents experience secondary trauma and blocked care, and this paper seeks to explore good practice about balancing safeguarding with providing support; the two are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
