Prospective Adopters > Benefits of VAAs

If you are interested in adoption, then you should think about applying to a Voluntary Adoption Agency!

There are two ways in which you can become an approved adopter for domestic adoption. Both operate within the same legal framework and are inspected and registered by the same inspection bodies. You can be:

  • Assessed and approved by a Voluntary Adoption Agency
  • Assessed and approved by a Local Authority Adoption Service
Child 10

There are many reasons that support the use of a voluntary adoption agency when applying to become an approved adopter.

A voluntary adoption agency will give you:

  • Excellent support and guidance throughout the whole process.

  • They will help you achieve a placement in the shortest possible time.

  • They carry on supporting adopters like you for as long as you want them to - often until your adopted child is 18.

  • Voluntary adoption agencies can concentrate on the service they give you because they specialise in adoption.

  • They have a reputation for quality and good practice.

  • Placements made with voluntary agencies have a much lower breakdown rate than those made by Local Authorities.

Some of our agencies also undertake inter-country adoption as well as domestic adoption, so please specify your interest when you contact us.

Please use the Request Information link to find out details of Voluntary Adoption Agencies in your area. You can then talk to each agency and decide which one suits you the best.
