CPD: 4 hours

For

Adoption practitioners and managers (Voluntary Adoption Agencies, Regional Adoption Agencies and Local Authorities) and Independent Professionals.

Details

This training session is to share our experiences of what works when working with teenagers and the challenges therein.

Scottish Adoption and St Andrew's Children's Society will highlight what we consider as good practice, and explore what has worked well and why. We will also cover what has not worked well and what we have learned from this. The reality and complexity of good support needed, how we manage that as agencies with limited resources, how to approach the balancing resource and time challenges and how to manage family’s/other agencies expectations.

    Learning outcomes

    • The ideal strategy to support teenagers and their families
    • To identify the skills needed by workers to build successful relationships between teenagers and their families
    • Understanding there are no quick fixes to working with young people –it is a long term time commitment on behalf of the worker/team
