4 hours CPD

Adoption practitioners and managers (Voluntary Adoption Agencies, Regional Adoption Agencies and Local Authorities) and Independent Professionals

Why you should attend

  • We will help you to set the task of how we assess adopters; the reason for references, what references we take up; how we test their attitudes to, for example, physical chastisement etc.; we also consider the matching process and the potential risks that may be present for the child and the adoptive family during placement.
  • You will have an opportunity to learn from Stephen Small, Director at St Andrew’s Children’s Society and their Safeguarding practices, whilst at the same time having the opportunity to identify the situations you find most challenging and work in smaller groups to consider various solutions.
  • You will be able to network with practitioners from other agencies. This workshop will give you an opportunity to share best practice and glean new ideas.

The aim of this workshop is to examine the complexities of balancing safeguarding and adoption support (both pre and post adoption order) and to consider what makes “good practice” when responding to safeguarding issues in family placement work.

  • This workshop will draw on the most recent safeguarding requirements, duty to report and recruitment policies and procedures, for adopters, for staff and volunteers
  • The workshop will focus on how we help adopters think about the specific safeguarding challenges there may be in relation to a particular child with complex experiences e.g. a child who has been sexually abused; a child whose behavior is ‘off the scale’ etc.

A member of staff will be in touch with attendees one week prior to the event to share a pre-event delegate pack.

Arrive for registration at 10:30 am.
